Today we had a great day! After Alexandra woke up from her nap we went to the Please touch museum and the Philly Zoo (for the second time). Maybe next year we should just get a family pass! But anyways, the Please Touch Museum was AWESOME! It was great too that Alex can walk now because she was able to walk around where she wanted to go. I want to go back, many times, as she grows older.
In the museum basically it is a big exploration place for kids to play. There were many different sections to the museum - a "pond" area where you could go inside a tree, go down a tree slide and step on musical lilly pads. What was neat was that each section of the museum has a toddler area and only kids under three are allowed in it so there are not big kids running around. In the pond section Alex loved the tree slide and the giant swan (duck to her!).
Next we went over to the musical section. Alexandra walked on the big musical piano like the one that was on the movie "Big". She rang bells and drummed too.
After that we headed to the Alice in Wonderland section and Nursery Rhyme section. In the Alice in Wonderland section the roof got smaller like in the movie. There were funny mirrors and a place for a tea party. They also have dress up clothes for if you want to dress like Alice.
Then we headed to City Capers - where there was a playhouse, garden, doctor's office, tv station,and other community features. My absolute favorite was the "Shoprite" section and kitchen Alex was really too young to enjoy these sections but when she is older I can't wait to take her back. In the store/kitchen section the kiddos can go get a shopping cart and go through what looks like a store. Shelves are stocked with plastic foods and include labels like a grocery store. It was so cute seeing all of these little kids pretend they are shopping and then checking out their groceries. As we walked past the Dr's office section little kids were checking their "patients" or parents who were laying down. It was so cute.
We then went to a few other places within the museum and ended up at the carousel where Alexandra went on a ride with Chris. I tried to get some pics - and I could just kick myself because I forgot to take the memory stick out of my laptop so I only could fit a few pics on my camera memory. So I guess that means we have to go back.
I highly recommend this museum to anyone with children who are toddlers or up to even second grade I think. What a neat experience! And they do birthday parties. What an awesome idea it would be to have a party there - and then the kids could explore and just let their imaginations go wild!
After the museum we went to the Philly Zoo. This time we went in the evening and the weather was wonderful. Last time we went we went in the afternoon and it was so stinking hot that we were sweating the whole time. It was almost uncomfortable last time and so humid. This time though it was perfect. We got there around 3 and the zoo closes at 5 so there were not as many people there. There were a good bit but definitely not as many as in the afternoon. It also helped that we went on a Friday and not Saturday! Another good thing was that we were able to see some of the animals actually being active! We watched the hippos come up out of the water and even heard them making loud noises. Last time we didn't even see them. We saw the gorilla jumping around instead of just sitting in one spot. The black bear and polar bear were both awake and last time they weren't.
All in all today was a great day. Now we are researching what we can do tomorrow! We need to make the most of this nice weather and of this Labor Day weekend.
