Chris Having Surgery

Yes....it's true. I guess the title should be Chris had surgery......last night! Ok I'll back up. Monday Chris was saying he had some sharp cramp like pain. We didn't think much of it - thought it was possibly from moving or something else. He continued to have these sporadic pains Tuesday and Wednesday off and on and then Thursday morning. We were supposed to go to a wedding Friday night so I suggested Chris call and try to get an appointment at our doctor near our old house since we don't have a doctor in our new town yet. He called and described the pains he was having and the lady asked him if he had certain symptoms and he didn't. The Dr's office was going to be closed today (Friday) so the lady told him to go to the ER. So around 12:30 he found a hospital to go to and went to the Emergency Room.

I could not go with him because I was picking up my sister up at the Philly airport. So I took Alex with me to the airport. I was nervous because first of all I don't know the area really well and second of all I was wondering how Chris was doing at the ER. So he continued to call me and give me updates. Each time it seemed to be ............."still sitting in the ER". He did call around 5 saying that he had gotten a cat scan and that there was a chance he had appendicitis. Ok so now ....I am leaving the airport and really worrying. He said that a surgeon was going to come look at the results.............WAIT....surgeon??? What......????? Meanwhile Amy is keeping me calm saying not to worry yet and that my mom had her appendix out and it's a common surgery.

On the way Chris's parents called and said that they were going to come down which was good. I was on the phone constantly trying to work out details about what was happening with Chris. He said he was being admitted so after feeding Alex Amy and I packed up and headed to the hospital. I called Chris and told him we were on our way. He said not to rush around because he didn't have a room yet. But I wanted to see him and have Alex see him too before it was her bedtime. He told me to stop and get him one of his favorite magazines...the Economist. Ok so I found a Walgreen's and pulled in just turned off the car when he calls me again. This time he says.................You need to get here right away to collect my personal belongings.............I'm going into the OR. WHAT???????????????????? ok so I rush there.....and when I get there is is POURING down rain. So I go into the ER saying I am looking for my husband who is on his way to the OR. Security people opens the doors for me and directs me where to go. So basically it is about 8:30 and I made it there just in time to see Chris before his surgery. The surgeons come and meet me and roll Chris out. It was just so surreal seeing him in this gown, cap, and hearing that he is going into the operating room. I talked with the Dr asking her how long of a surgery, how easy, etc. She reassured me it was an easy and quick surgery - about 30 mins. So meanwhile we go to the family lounge and are talking with another lady who is waiting there for her friend, who also, came in to get her appendix removed.

At this point - about 9 PM Alex is still sleeping. Chris's parents arrive and we get some food from McDonald's. Finally I am eating dinner. Well about 9:30 Alexandra wakes up and is playful and just crawling around in the family lounge, playing, being cute and silly and then we hear that Chris is ok and in recovery which is wonderful news. We finally get to see him around 10:30. I should have taken a picture because he wanted to see Alexandra and she went to him and just curled up into his arms (she was still tired even though she had woken up) and it was almost like she was thinking................."this is my daddy.......I love him so much!" It was so precious I should have taken a picture but I didn't want to hear repercussions later about snapping pics of Chris in his hospital gown so I refrained from my picture taking.

So finally it was 11 PM when we got home and were up until about 1 or 1:30. We went back to visit Chris this morning and then his parents and my sister left and I stayed with Chris. We just hung out in the room and watched tv together. I know he was hurting and it made me feel sad to see him so uncomfortable. But now he is home.........resting.........and I am taking good care of him. Or I hope I am............I am there for anything he wants or needs at his beckon call.

So that is the story. I'll keep you updated on his progress. Thank you for all of the prayers thoughts.

Up next...........................pictures of our house and Alex's First Birthday!!!
