I started potty training Camden about 2 weeks ago and I am pretty sure that I can say that Camden is day trained. He is definitely at the point where he will tell me when he has to go to the bathroom. I did spend pretty much 5 total days inside with him trying to catch accidents and after those 5 days we started to venture out of the house. Before we leave the house I always have Camden try to go and he usually always does, even if he protests.
The sticker chart worked really well for him. He loved getting stickers which would earn him lollipops or new hot wheels after so many.We kind of got rid of the chart and he gets an occasional lollipop or a car if he's done really well.
Accidents are few and far between. If he does have one it's usually that he wet his undies on the way to the potty. Sometimes when he's playing he doesn't want to stop. I've gone from telling him to tell me when he has to go to simply telling him he should go or try and I usually try every hour or two. He is staying dry longer and has already stayed dry for 5 nights and during his naps as well.
He still wears pull ups at night but even then he tells me when he has to go. I think with Alex she would just go in her pull up and be fine but Camden wants to use the potty and get his pull up off even if it's only a drop in there. Of course, going to the potty to him at night is more of a ploy to stop bedtime.
He has a routine that he follows every night. After reading our books I have him go potty. Then he comes to the door about 5 times after that saying he has to go. Now, at the beginning of training I was so excited when he's telling me he has to go. But now, it gets frustrating since it is definitely a way to stall going to bed. I'm sure (or I'm hopeful at least) that the novelty wears off because what used to be a 20-30 minute bedtime routine has turned into 45-50 minutes.
I keep telling myself that as he gets older it will get easier. Alex is 5 and sleeps through the night, not waking to go to the bathroom and wakes up usually at a semi-decent time. He's been waking at 5 pretty much every morning as well and wanting milk and then NOT going back to sleep. After 3 days of this he finally went back to sleep today until 7.
It will get easier. It will get easier. It will get easier.
That's what I'm telling myself.
But as for now, I'm very happy to be diaper free with Camden and no longer paying 15 dollars every few weeks. One pull up a day vs. 3 or so diapers every day makes me (and my wallet) happy!
