Conversations with Alexandra

When living with a 3 year old you never know what they are going to say. I love having conversations with Alex because I usually get a good laugh out of them. I've been able to carry on a conversation with her for a while. But now she is telling jokes, and seems as though she is witty (is that even possible?) and can express her emotions clearly with words.

Here are some things she's said recently.

If she is doing something that she shouldn't really do she'll look at me and say "Mommy don't look at me" or "Mommy look away." She basically warns me that she is doing something she shouldn't and I should just look away and it will be ok. Or if she has done something she shouldn't have and I find out and I ask her about it her response is "ummmm  I don't want to tell you."

The other day we were playing and she said that something was "marvelous". Marvelous - really??

I'm not sure if I posted this or not yet but apparently at school she told a joke. She then tried to tell Amy the joke and then Amy told me. The joke was: "How do monsters count to 15?" And the answer...."They use their fingers." I giggled because it actually could make sense because "monsters" could have more than 10 fingers.  So I asked her if she heard that joke at school, like if one of her friends told her. And then she said "The teacher didn't laugh." And so I thought - oh sheesh - she is telling jokes at school (hopefully not at inappropriate times!) But then at home she would make up other jokes that don't make sense. So looks like we may have a class comedian on our hands.

Speaking of her saying things at school I wonder what she does talk about. I know when I was a teacher I would hear many stories (some of which I didn't need to hear) at school. Well yesterday she had a cough and I was told to put on Vick's vapor rub on her feet and put socks on. So I did. Or at first I tried. I had to warm her up to the idea. I told her I was going to so that she could get better and not cough. I think she thought it may hurt or something. So here's how this conversation went.

(Alex on the floor hiding) A: I'm scared.
Me: Why are you scared?
A: You used mean words to me
Me: What mean words did I use??????
A: About the socks.
Me: But what mean words did I say????
A: You told me you'd put socks on.
Me: Alex, I just want you to get better. I wasn't being  mean. If I put Vick's on your feet I need to put socks on so it doesn't get all over.
A: Oh. ok. (and then she let me put them on)

Phew.........I was thinking - I wasn't ever being mean at all I guess she thought it was mean of me to put socks on her feet.  So now I am just picturing her going to school saying  "My mommy uses mean words!!!!"

We were playing preschool Boggle where you match the letters to the letters on the picture card. The word was C-A-T and so she matched the letters on the card but she put C-A and then skipped a space and then put letter T farther over. And then she said "Put the letter here?" I said "Well actually here (pointing to right beside the A) and she said "close enough!"

We were baking cookies and after she helped me mix them up I said "My part is to put them in the oven" and she replied "My part is to eat the cookies."

Chris and Alex were building a tower out of blocks and it was getting very tall (taller than her) and she said "I have a bad feeling about this!" Then as they were building she said "I'm feeling very frustrated!" and finally when it was super tall she said "Ut oh, it's veeeeery  leany!!!!"

Last night Alex and I were home alone at dinner because Chris had a late meeting. So I got her dinner ready and we sat down ready to eat and she took one bite and got up and went to her playroom and started playing with her magnetic dolls. I said "Alex come back over and eat your dinner." She said "But they (the dolls) have to get dressed for their wedding ." So she dressed them and there were some dinosaurs near them and I said "Oh yeah is she marrying the dinosaur?" And she said something to the effect of the dinosaur  is marrying the two dolls on the train table as she laid them on the train table beside each other. Then she said "Ok now I can come eat dinner"

In the tub yesterday she was playing and I quick ran next door to Camden's room to change his diaper. She has a good imagination and I kept hearing what sounded like "DIE DIE DIE" and I was thinking "what on earth is she doing????" and so after I changed his diaper I went back over to see her with a rubber duck sitting on the ledge of the tub going into the water. She was actually saying "DIVE DIVE DIVE" Phew! Thank goodness!! I was wondering why such a sweet little girl would be yelling DIE DIE DIE to her toys!!!

She is just the sweetest girl. Last night/today I had/have a sore throat. Last night when I was reading bed time stories I was whispering it hurt so bad. This morning  she said "I hope your throat feels better Mommy." Or if I hit my foot on something or scratch myself, etc she wants to kiss it to make it feel better. Which is weird because I used to kiss her boo-boo's and now when she gets one she says "Don't kiss it mommy" as if she is too old for that!

Love that girl!
