Last weekend we surprised Alexandra and Camden with our big secret: that we are going to Disney next month. We've been planning this vacation secretly for the past 10 month or so and we thought it would be neat to surprise Alex closer to the time we were going.
At first we weren't sure how we would do it. We thought about breaking the news the day of the trip but then thought about her reactions. Our flight is early in the morning and so we may be leaving here around 5 am. Not sure that would have been the best way to do it. I wanted to give her some time to process the information and really didn't want her to freak out at the airport!
So we are going in about 20 days so we thought her birthday party weekend would be a great time. I created a scavenger hunt with clues where she would find boxes. In each box was a piece of Mickey (Chris's idea, which I thought was great). She and Camden would find the 4 boxes then open them to put together the pieces to reveal where we were going.
When she opened the boxes she knew right away it was Mickey. Her reaction was not crazy, in fact, she was happy but not jumping up and down excited. I knew she probably wouldn't have that reaction and that was fine.
So now we have a Disney count down chain where she and Camden can remove a link per day. When we reach the Mickey ears it will be time to go.
We're all looking forward to our upcoming Disney vacation!
